New exhibition at the Polish Museum “Ogniwo”

Listy z domu

Ogniwo Polish Museum would like to invite you to the official opening of its newest exhibit: LETTERS FROM HOME: A VIRTUAL EXHIBIT, which officially launches on April 19, 2020.

The exhibit is based on letters held in the Władysław Ważny collection held at the Ogniwo Polish Museum Archives. Ważny immigrated to Canada in 1927, the only member of his immediate family to do so. For over six decades, he corresponded with his parents and his seven brothers and sisters in his home village of Huta Różaniecka (near Rzeszów).

Together, the letters he received from his family tell the story of Huta Różaniecka in the years between 1937 and 1995, while also offering a lens through which to view larger socio-political and economic developments in Poland over the decades. They bear witness to the upheavals of war, the misery of poverty, the hope for a better future, the joys of familial love and support, and the yearning for one’s homeland.

We hope that our next exhibit launch will take place in our Museum and that we can see you all in person – wrote Magda Blackmore, president of the Polish Museum “Ogniwo” in the invitation. For now, however, invites you to a small Polish village with a single mouse click. It also encourages sharing comments and opinions on the museum’s website, as well as extensively sharing the link with family and friends.
